Hi!
English former TVR owner now living in Germany maybe returning to the fold! :D
If I do buy a 2006 TVR (Tamora or Tuscan) it will be registered, taxed and tested = TÜV=MOT in England.
This has some advantages as we know but means travelling back to the UK every 12 months to renew MOT.
Tax and insurance can be done online once MOT has been renewed.
Does anyone know of a workshop/dealer in Germany who can renew an english MOT?
Can garages who look after the UK cars of British soldiers carry out the MOT for civilians?
Thank you in advance for your help
Viele Grüsse
Jess

Hi Jess.

I cannot say for sure if they can perform a proper MOT for civilians, but you might call the BFG HQ for further information. You can find the number here:

http://www.esg.bfgnet.de/Rhine%20Garrison/motoring.html

Look for "Roadworthiness Inspection", there is a telephone number given.

On the other hand....what is so bad about going to England once a year?

Regards,
Björn.

Hi Björn,
Thanks for quick response!
I have looked at the website and if I have understood correctly the `roadworthiness` is only based on the MOT-it does not replace it.
I have nothing against England-after all I am an island monkey but it is a relatively long (1000km in each direction) boring drive to make once a year.
Every two years would be okay-thats why a German MOT station would be ideal!
Viele Grüße
Jess

Jess,

as an ex-MOT tester, I can only tell you that it is impossible now to get an MOT from Germany, unless you are living within the Barracks, and the vehicle is registered or on BF Plates..

There is only one way to get an MOT and that is to travel back and forth to the UK 1 time every year.. (believe me it is not easy, since everything is now in the VOSN Database, I have done it now on 3 different TVR's in Germany).

As you will know, your insurance is also only valid for a maximum 90 days in Europe, and therefore you have 3 months to prove that the car was back in the UK.. (there are other ways for this and I can help you if you want, PM me).

All in all, once you register as having a main address in Germany (I don't !), you are required by law to register the car within 12 months in the country you are living. Unless you stipulate at registration in Germany that you are keeping your home address in UK, and will pay Taxes in both countries...

Unfortunately, the German 'Beamter Staat' is not so foreigner friendly...

R's

Steve
